An engine problem has forced a Whakatane driver out of round two of the BNT V8's.

In what was shaping up to be a promising weekend at Ruapuna for Christina Orr, an engine problem which surfaced in race one reappeared early in the second.

She says they thought they had fixed it but in the second race, smoke started coming into the cockpit and she couldn't see anything.

The damage was terminal and the weekend was over for the team, leaving them to sit out and watch the final race.

The race was also red flagged and brought to a temporary halt when Andy Booth went off the circuit at high speed.

While disappointed to miss the last race, Orr says when she saw the carnage she was glad they still had a straight car, rather than a big repair bill over Christmas.
