The outcome of the region's Rugby World Cup bid will be revealed today.
Rugby New Zealand 2011 is to announce team hosting arrangements, and mobility's expected to be a key theme.
It's hoped the Eastern Bay will feature in team itineraries as either a training base or excursion destination.
At a visit to the region in July, team services manager Michelle Tapper said Whakatane showed a lot of potential for hosting a team.
RNZ 2011 chief executive Martin Snedden says feedback from participating teams has shown they'd prefer to travel from region to region for matches, rather than remain based in one host city for the duration of their stay.
With three matches confirmed for Rotorua, the Eastern Bay is hoping for a slice of the action.
