Walker in the running for Sportswoman of the Year

Eastern Bay BMX rider Sarah Walker has been announced as a finalist for New Zealand Sportswoman of the Year.

The nomination is for the annual Halberg awards, which recognise sporting excellence.

Over the past year Walker has won the cruiser and BMX class at the World Championships in Australia.

She's also won another World Cup in South Africa.

However, she's up against some tough competition, including Alison Shanks, Valerie Vili and Sophie Pascoe.

The Awards will be presented early next month.
