The future of flights from Rotorua to Sydney, will depend on continued support from across the Bay Of Plenty.
Air New Zealand's Chief Executive has revealed Trans Tasman flights provide little financial return for the airline.
Rob Fyfe says to maintain services to Sydney and expand to other Australian ports, the company will need to secure code-share deals with other airlines.
He says one of the reasons they want to build a relationship with Virgin, is because it allows them to reach more ports in Australia and to feed from those ports across into New Zealand.
Mr Fyfe describes Rotorua as a fabulous destination, but says we need to think of it not just as Rotorua but as the whole Bay of Plenty region.
He believes the whole Bay needs to get behind the service to make it work.
