It will be at least another two weeks before evacuated Eastern Bay residents can return home.
Residents from six apartments and two houses on Muriwai Drive were evacuated a fortnight ago, because of the risk of further landslips.
Council Chief Executive and Civil Defence Controller Diane Turner says the buildings in Muriwai Drive are not structurally unstable, but there's a risk the hillside behind them could move.
Engineers have assessed the hillside but results proved inconclusive.
More thorough tests will be carried out over the next week, with results known by next Friday.
