The region's two District Health Boards will receive more funding for elective surgeries next year.
There's been more elective surgeries carried out at Bay of Plenty and Lakes DHBs, contributing to a record increase nationwide.
The Ministry of Health's released the elective surgery results for the 2009/2010 financial year.
Bay of Plenty District Health Board's provided elective surgeries for more than 8,000 patients - 375 more than last year.
The number provided by Lakes DHB has increased by 10% to 3,400.
Bay of Plenty will get an extra $21 million this financial year, with Lakes DHB receiving an $8 million boost.
Throughout the country, almost 140,000 patients have had elective surgery in the last 12 months.
