Bay of Plenty Regional Council staff will meet with other goat control agencies to come up with a plan, to reduce the pests.
The Regional Council's been working with the Department of Conservation, Nga Whenua Ranui, landowners and district councils to control feral goat populations in the Eastern Bay.
It says goat infestations pose a threat to biodiversity, affecting ecological values.
The Regional Council plans to eradicate goats from areas such as Motu and Otara within five years, and rid them from the Eastern Bay within 50 years.
Land Resources Manager, Greg Corbett says to do this, the Council needs to integrate with all agencies involved in controlling the pests.
He says the focus will continue to be on outlier goat populations, and once they've eliminated them they'll move into the core infestation in the western Motu and Otara area.
He accepts that's going to take a long time.
