Quota Bookfest – Any unwanted books or magazines can be dropped off at either Opotiki Glass in King Street or Opotiki Auto & Diesel in the old Dairy Factory Building for the annual Opotiki Bookfest which will run from 19th December to 7th January in the Opotiki Heritage Art Hall.

December, Thursday 15th

Let’s Go Whanau Duathlon - Registrations end  5.30pm for a 6pm start. $5 per person in family teams of 2-3. Walk or run, plus either 5 or 10km bike, then another 2.5km walk/run. Ōpōtiki Golf Club Business House Golf - Round 2 of the six week challenge between local businesses and groups. Teams of 4-6 with 1 club member playing Ambrose over 9 holes. Band: Scoobie Don’t – 60’s, 70’s and 80’s music.  BYO food and drink to the Woodlands Hall.  Starts 8pm, $15 per ticket.  Optional $5 after show taxi. R18 event, door sales $20. Ōpōtiki Surf Lifesaving Club Junior Surf Programmes – Sand Crabs (Under 7yrs) - 11am to 11.30am, Nippers (7 to 12yrs) – 12pm to 1pm, Rookies (12 to 14yrs) – 1pm to 3pm.  Held at the clubhouse at Waiotahi Beach every Sunday.  For details contact Amiria 315 6314.


December, Monday 19th

Quota International of Ōpōtiki – Annual Bookfest opens today and runs through to Saturday 7th January 2012.

From 9.30am to 3.30pm each day except Christmas Day and New Years Day at the Opotiki Heritage Art Society Hall in King Street, Ōpōtiki. Enquiries to Florence Craig 315 7621.

December, Tuesday 20th

Athletics Training 2 to 6yrs meet at 4.30 to 5.15pm. 7+ years, including adults, 5.30 to 6.30pm. Meet at Ōpōtiki College Sports grounds. $10 for 2 to 6yrs for the season, $25 for 7+, with a family discount. Book Launch – Taketakerau The Millenium Tree. 5.30pm at the Ōpōtiki Museum 123 Church Street. Everyone invited to celebrate the launch of this book about our local legend. Light refreshments, and the book will be on sale. www.themilleniumtree.com.

December, Tuesday 20th , Wednesday 21st  and Thursday 22nd 

“Follow the Star” – St John’s Union Parish Lounge, between 10am and 3pm. Mainly Music presents a Nativity Display where parents and children can explore the town made famous by a Baby and a Star. Children’s craft activities where the little ones can make something to take home, special children’s Christmas readings and light refreshments. The children will be given a wee star to take home. Ōpōtiki ITM Rodeo - The Annual Ōpōtiki Rodeo (Sponsored by ITM) is not to be missed. It features spectacular horse and western type events and is commended by the competing cowboys and girls to be one of the best in New Zealand. Adult $20, Child $5, Family $35 New this year - Summercross/Rodeo super family pass $60 (admission to Summercross on 27th and Rodeo on 28th). Waiotahi Beach Sand Sculpture Competition - Get creative and make a masterpiece with shells, seaweed, driftwood and sand at the 2012 Waiotahi Beach Sand Sculpture Competition. Run by Ōpōtiki Lions Club. Start at 9am. Judging at 1pm, 2pm Prize-giving. $5 per site for up to 4 people. Contact Suzy 07 315 5747.
