New regional councilor calls for more sustainable growth

Environment Bay of Plenty's new councillor believes the region needs a stronger focus on ensuring all economic growth is sustainable.

Tai Eru has been signed in as the new councillor to cover the Orukei constituency, left empty after the death of Hawea Vercoe last year.

In his inaugaration speech Mr Eru said the environment, family and community need balance and harmony.

He said to achieve this the area needs to balance commercial interests with the best scientific inputs and the wisdom developed over centeries by Maori.

Mr Eru says this will take time.
