Whakatane Police are fed up with drunk drivers.

Bruce Jenkins says 13 people were caught driving while drunk on the weekend.

He says that 13 is 13 too many.

Senior Sergeant Jenkins doesn't know what it will take to get the message across.

He feels drunk drivers will either have to kill themselves or somebody else before the drink driving message sinks in.

The weekend's bust comes as police turn their focus to the Australasian Alcohol Related Crime campaign on Friday.

The campaign will focus on drunk driving, breach of liquor ban and drunken disorderly behaviour.
