Scrub fire near Te Kaha UPDATE

Helicopters with monsoon buckets continue to contain a large scrub fire near Te Kaha.

The fire off State Highway 35 spans an area of 200 by 150 metres - roughly three hectares.

A couple of rural fire trucks from Opotiki are on scene, along with the Waihau Bay fire crew.

Opotiki Volunteer Brigade has returned home.

Police have also been in attendance, before fire crews arrived.

The blaze started in a hilly paddock just before noon.
