Prime Minister visits Whakatane

Jacinda Ardern credits her Murupara childhood with putting her on the road to becoming PM.

Ms Ardern is back in the Eastern Bay today to launch Te Tai Whakaea - the Treaty Settlement Stories Project.

Te Tai Whakaea is a bilingual multimedia project that aims to tell the stories of Treaty settlements and their impact.

Ms Ardern lived in Murupara for several years as a child, and says some of the stark inequalities she noticed as a young person were what sparked her interest in politics.

She also stopped in at the newly opened Whakatane Museum and Research Centre.
