Opotiki murder investigation launched

Two and a half years after he died in a suspected fall, the death of Opotiki man Brian Albert Hilton is now being investigated as a murder.

Mr Hilton was admitted to Tauranga Hospital with facial injuries on the 7th of July 2016, from what was believed at the time to be a fall in his home and died six days later.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Standen, Eastern Area Manager of Investigations says Eastern Bay of Plenty Criminal Investigation Branch officers are returning to Opotiki this week to revisit the case.

Senior Sergeant Standen says Police have recently received new information and as a result are reopening the investigation and treating Mr Hilton's death as a homicide.

He says Eastern Bay of Plenty Police are absolutely determined to hold the person who committed this extremely serious crime to account, and bring this case to a conclusion.
