Junior doctors in talks
Talks will begin today between junior doctors and their employers, in a bid to avoid a second strike later this month.
The New Zealand Resident Doctors Association represents the junior hospital doctors and will enter mediation with the district health boards.
The mediation comes as the union plans to hold another 48-hour strike from January 29th until the 30th.
Services at Whakatane Hospital were previously reduced to a minimum during a strike earlier this month, with elective surgeries having to be postponed.
