Junior doctors strike action underway again
Up to 20 junior doctors are on strike today, with Whakatane Hospital providing only emergency and essential services over the next 48-hours.
Proposed changes to the way junior doctors are rostered continues to be the main sticking point with District Health Boards, as discussions drag on.
The doctors have been working 10-day shifts for the past year, after securing a new deal with the health boards.
But this has been changed back to 12 days in the latest negotiations.
People are being asked to save the hospital emergency department for emergencies only.
