Attempted abduction in Whakatane overnight

Whakatane Police are on the hunt for a man following an attempted abduction overnight.

A female was walking home from tennis practise at around 9pm, when she was approached by a male at the Allandale Superette in a white Volkswagen and was asked to get in the vehicle.

She refused but was later approached on Bridge Street, this time the offender got out of the vehicle and tried to grab her.

She managed to punch the man and get away.

Investigations are underway today into the incident.

The victim says the male looked as if he was of an Indian descent with a kiwi accent, in his early 20's, chubby, and with short brown curly hair.

He was wearing a dark long sleeved top at the time, with black track pants and black work boots.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Whakatane Police.
