Have the safety conversation

We're being encouraged to make safety a priority following the arrest of a man who allegedly attempted to abduct a 16 year-old as she walked home from tennis practise.

The teenager managed to punch him after the second approach, fleeing the scene and alerting Police on Wednesday night.

The incident comes just three weeks out from Allandale Schools safety program called Keeping Myself Safe held every two years in conjunction with New Zealand Police.

Allandale School Principal Drew Manning says its time to have the safety conversation.

The man has since been charged with male assaults female and drink-driving on a zero alcohol licence.
