Cosmic show for Bay of Plenty residents
A cosmic shower of light over New Zealand skies on Saturday night has been described as a "once in a lifetime" experience by Bay of Plenty residents.
Skywatches across the Bay of Plenty reported a possible meteor or space junk sighting around 9 in the evening. Sightings were reported around the country.
Some of the satellite weighing nearly two tonnes, could also have survived the heat of its dive through the atmosphere and landed in someone's backyard.
So keep your eyes peeled for large chunks of glass or scorched metal.
