Warm weather continues for the Eastern Bay
Whakatane's position as the sunniest spot in the North Island has been confirmed by the very high temperatures the district recorded in the latter stages of last week.
It reached 30 degrees on both Thursday and Friday.
It was a little cooler on Saturday at 24 degrees, but the mercury was back up to 32 again yesterday with Whakatane reaching the highest temperature in the north island, and it will probably be much the same today.
Mayor Tony Bonne, while disappointed at Whakatane losing out to Richmond in the upper South Island in the Sunshine Stakes, says this area has a lot going for it weather-wise at present.
