Investigations continue into Christmas Day assault
The colour of the clothing you're wearing shouldn't be a cause for violence, according to Whakatane police.
They're investigating an assault on a 16 year old man on Awatapu Drive on Christmas night.
The victim was taken to Whakatane Hospital with stab wounds to his upper body and one leg. He was later discharged.
Detective Sergeant Darren Thomas says inquiries so far indicate the attack stemmed from someone taking exception to the colour of the victim's clothing.
He says police won't tolerate that kind of violence and they're following a strong line of inquiry to find the offender.
