Three meningococcal cases in Bay of Plenty

Two Bay of Plenty people -- one from the Eastern Bay -- are in a stable condition in hospital after being diagnosed with meningococcal disease.

The pair contracted the disease over the holiday period -- an eight year old girl from Te Puke is in a stable condition in Tauranga Hospital, while a 25 year-old Opotiki man is also in a stable condition in Whakatane Hospital with the disease.

A third Bay of Plenty child -- a five year old boy -- who recently moved from Northland to Tauranga was also hospitalised after falling ill on New Years Eve.
