Farmers market to start in Edgecumbe

The wheels are in motion when it comes to setting up an authentic farmers market at Edgecumbe.

It's a quest that's been led by local woman Maria King, who felt probed to get the ball rolling in the absence of the town's only supermarket - which has been closed since the 2017 flooding.

Maria King thinks there is a market for people wanting to consume locally grown products.

And that's been affirmed by about 40 local growers who have applied for a stall holder information pack.

The market gets underway on Labour Weekend at the Rangitaiki Cosmopolitan Club car park.
