Government invests in pest control
Eastern Bay of Plenty conservation groups are praising the Government's recent investment in pest control.
Ministers Shane Jones and Eugenie Sage announced the $19.5m investment on Monday.
They say the funding will be used by Predator Free 2050 Limited --a Crown-owned company-- to contract projects that will bring tens of thousands of hectares of rural and forested land under predator control, create regional jobs and stimulate demand for education at regional training institutes.
Halo Whakatane community igniter Bridget Palmer says the announcement is great news and Halo Whakatane will be applying for funding.
Waiariki MP Tamati Coffey has supported her comments.
He says the funding represents a necessary and significant shift away from the use of 1080.
