Kiwifruit season begins in Bay of Plenty

Gold kiwifruit picking is underway in the Bay of Plenty and ahead of peak season positions are still available.

Picking has begun in Te Puke and Whakamarama -- with the Bay producing over 80 per cent of New Zealand's total producing hectares of kiwifruit.

An estimated industry-wide 150 million trays are expected to be picked over the harvest season.

New Zealand Kiwifruit Growers Incorporated Chief Executive Officer Nikki Johnson says positions are still open for applications.
