Matata triple fatal accused appears in Court

Friends and whanau of the three men killed in a "horror" crash on Matata one month ago today, have faced the man charged in relation to their deaths.

Forty-six year old David Michael Cox, appeared in Whakatane Court today, charged with careless use of a vehicle causing the deaths of David Reginald Te Wira Epairama, Haki Graham Hiha and Dudley Sole Raroa.

During his appearance Cox kept his head down, weeping as he left the Court.

Whanau members and friends of the deceased filled the public gallery -- a photo of Hiha being held by one.

Defense lawyer Gene Tomlinson appeared on behalf of Tauranga solicitor Tony Balme, and did not apply for name suppression.

The accused has been remanded on bail until his next appearance on April 17.
