New vessel for Bay maritime fleet
The Bay of Plenty's mairtime fleet has a new member, a multi-purpose vessel.
The Sealegs vessel named Kaha, meaning strength, will be used to respond to events such as marine oil spills and navigational hazards.
Bay of Plenty Regional Council Harbourmaster Peter Buell says Kaha is unique and will be able to get close to shallow and dry areas in Harbours.
The vessel will be used to assist when others run aground, or in an oil spill case, Kaha can get close enough with large amounts of spill equipment and pumps to deal with it efficiently.
Bay of Plenty Regional Council Harbourmaster Harborumaster Peter Buell says the vessel will be based in Tauranga but will service the whole Bay of Plenty.
