Eastern Bay drivers urged to take care ahead of severe weather
Eastern Bay police are reminding motorists to slow down, increase following distances and take care -- ahead of severe weather forecast for the region overnight.
MetService has warned a front moving across the country is likely to bring heavy rain to the region, from later today through to Tuesday morning -- particularly between Opotiki and the Gisborne ranges for 12 hours from about nine tonight.
Ninety to 130mm is expected with the largest accumulations about the ranges.
Up to 30 and 40mm per hour, especially in thunderstorms, is likely.
Road Policing Unit Head Sergeant Ray Wylie says take care.
He says drivers often tend to struggle to read these types conditions and drive accordingly, and has asked for all to slow down.
