Police to combat cannabis dealing across Eastern BOP

Eastern Bay residents are being asked to do their part to help reduce criminal activity in the community.

The message comes ahead of an expected surge in cannabis dealing -- a result of what Whakatane Police say has been a good year for growers.

Community Constable Spike Dickey says tinny houses are likely to be open 24 hours across Eastern Bay communities.

“As we all know drugs are a driver of crime. Burglaries are committed, thefts are committed — all for people to purchase drugs.

“If you are aware of this happening in your street, please let us know.”

Anyone who would like to report this activity can call Whakatane Police on 07 308 5255.

Alternatively information can be shared anonymously through the Crimestoppers Hotline on 0800 555 111.
