Official Rahui in place at Sullivan Lake
A Rahui has now been placed officially on Sullivan Lake and the surrounding reserve from nine this morning.
It follows the death of a two year old from suspected drowning at the lake on Sunday.
The Whakatane District Council and Te Runanga o Ngati Awa say the Rahui will be in place until 5pm on Friday.
A Rahui is a form of restriction that limits work in and around the lake and any organised public use of the reserve.
Local Kaitiaki have thanked the public in advance for adherence to and respect of the Rahui.
