Information sought on unexplained Opotiki death

Police are looking to the public to provide more information, following an unexplained death in Opotiki.

It comes after a man's body, believed to be in his late 40s, was discovered by a member of the public at the Hikuwai Beach car park at about 9am on Sunday.

Police in a statement described the cause of his death as “unexplained” in a media statement released yesterday afternoon.

Today, a police media spokesperson confirmed the investigation into the unexplained death has resumed.

She says police are now appealing for witnesses.

“Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen a Maroon Rav 4 in the Hikuwai Beach area on Saturday or Sunday.

“We are also wanting to hear from anyone who may have seen anything unusual or suspicious in the area.”

The scene remains closed to the public, and police say they are not yet in a position to release the name of the deceased.
