ITOs in for big shake up

Don't scrap industry training organisations just make them more fit for purpose.

That's the advice to the government from a member of the Mayors Task Force which works closely with ITOs.

The Employment Minister has indicated that training organisations and tertiary institutes are in for a big change.

Kawerau Mayor Malcolm Campbell says getting a young person ready for employment is about more than classroom learning.

“Your average student will learn this theory in a classroom, then they get dumped out into the world and they aren’t work-ready.

“This is why these trades training institutes have been so important, students are trained in an institution, however there are a lot of wrap-around services to make sure they actually are work ready.”
