The group battling to overturn the granting of consent to Chinese company Nongfu Spring to take a lot more underground water at Otakiri is going to the public to help with its fundraising.

The company has consent to increase the amount of water taken from 13 hundred and 50 cubic metres a day to five thousand.

Sustainable Otakiri has an appeal against that booked to be heard in the Environment Court next month.

Spokesperson Maureen Fraser says they've opened a campaign on the crowd-funding platform Pledge Me.

She says they have to find 50 thousand dollars for the appeal, and need 30 thousand from the public.
