Murupara looking for way forward after ATM attack
Community leaders in Murupara met last night to discuss what to do about the loss of the town's ATM and banking service.
It follows the recent attack on Credit Union Central's building in Pine Street and the removal of Murupara's only ATM machine with a front end loader.
The money machine was later found intact some kilometres away, and police are still hunting the offenders.
Murupara Community Board member Mem Jenner says last night's meeting was about finding a safety strategy for the community as well as keeping money and the economy rolling.
She says they're also asking Credit Union to continue its banking service.
“We’ve got a public hui on Friday asking the community to bring their suggestions forward, then we can move it in to a strategy.”
