Men dominate BOP drowning stats

Water Safety New Zealand says five of the ten people who drowned in the Bay of Plenty last year did so in home pools or spa pools.

It says half of the drownings were people over the age of 54.

Men continue to dominate the figures.

Water Safety New Zealand Chief Executive Jonty Mills says they're some of the reasons the organisation is making a special effort in the Bay of Plenty.
