Waimana Gorge to reopen during daylight hours
UPDATE: State Highway 2 through the Waimana Gorge will open tomorrow during daylight hours.
The road will open between the hours of 7am and 5:30pm.
Bay of Plenty System Manager Rob Campbell says The site will be continuously monitored during this time to ensure the area remains safe for people to travel through.
A traffic management crew will be in place to monitor the site for any changes, and will be ready set up a closure if needed.
Due to poor visibility the road will close again overnight as staff will be unable to see the top of slip and monitor if its safe.
The gorge will also be closed if there is a severe weather warning or significant rainfall forecast.

EARLIER: The Transport Agency is aiming to have State highway 2 through the Waimana Gorge reopened before the end of the week.
Due to a major slip the Waimana Gorge between Stanley and Fraser roads remains closed.
NZTA's Geotech team has ruled the cliff is still too unstable to reopen the road.
The agency has promised another update on progress by this evening.
