Mana in Mahi gets funding boost during Edgecumbe visit


The Prime Minister has announced a boost of nearly 50 million dollars for an employment and training programme, during a visit to Edgecumbe this afternoon.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Employment Minister Willie Jackson were in Edgecumbe today, visiting Tunnicliffe Timber - who are one of 161 employers taking young people through the Mana in Mahi programme.

The pair had huge praise for the Edgecumbe business who have been able to offer 19-year-old Tipene van den Anker an employment opportunity, through the programme.

Mana in Mahi aims to give young people on a benefit a pathway to achieve an industry qualification or an apprenticeship, with their employers receiving a wage subsidy to offset the training costs.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says the government is now investing a further $49.9 million into the programme.

The funding extends the places available from 150 up to 2000.
