NZTA to clean Waioeka Bridge

A petition driven by Opotiki residents could be what's owing to the transport agency finally taking action to clean up the Waioeka bridge.

The petition has been led by Opotiki woman Tania Te Whenua who started the petition in about February this year, after many residents had expressed their disappointment in the state of the bridge.

Tania Te Whenua says close to 2000 people signed her petition.

This led to meetings with local MPs and an Official Information Act request to the NZTA to speed things along.

Now the Transport Agency has confirmed the Bridge will be professionally cleaned later this year.

Mayor John Forbes says it's great news.

He says it's a battle he's been fighting for a long time too.
