Tuhoe sign partnership with Oranga Tamariki
North Island iwi Tūhoe, have signed an agreement with Oranga Tamariki aimed at seeing fewer children end up in state care.
Signed yesterday in Taneatua, the agreement will see Oranga Tamariki deal with all at-risk Tūhoe children centrally through its Whakatane office, in a bid to see children moved out of state care and into homes connected to their wider whanau.
The Ministry also has committed to informing the iwi when Tūhoe children come to its attention and keeping the iwi informed about matters related to whanau.
It's the fourth such arrangement between the Ministry for Children and iwi in the past year, following similar partnerships with other iwi.
