Information sought on Eastern Bay burglaries

The Opotiki Coastguard is looking for answers about a burglary which took place at its headquarters yesterday.

The building on Wharf Street was broken into around 2pm with a lot of rescue gear and equipment taken.

1XX drive announcer LJ Dobbin, who volunteers for the club, says some of the items include distinctive Coastguard Grab bags, six handheld radios, a curved lightbar, a Samsung tablet, industrial torches, and money boxes containing cash.

Meanwhile Whakatane police say about six burglaries have taken place in the region over the last week.

These include one at Lord Cobham Drive where a play station and controller along with a hat were stolen on Monday.

The next day a 58-inch Veon TV was stolen from Garaway Street.

Later in the week a cellphone was taken from the glovebox of a car at Clifton road, and a bike was taken from another house on Pouwhare Street.

The next day police were alerted to a person attempting to steal a car at Louvain Street, however this was unsuccessful.

During the same day a blue HP laptop was stolen from Douglas Street.

Anyone with further information about any of these events should call police.
