State Highway 2 through the Waioweka Gorge will be open 24/7 under stop/go traffic management for the Easter period.
From 6am Thursday, April 2, to 8pm Tuesday 7 April, there will be no overnight closures.
Night closures, 8pm to 6am, will resume from April 7 to April 9, with the road open under stop/go control during the day.
From 6am on Friday, April 10, the Gorge will once again be open 24/7; however, still remaining under stop/go management.
NZTA said closures will only be required for safety reasons, as there is still loose hillside material.
“Be prepared for short-notice closures if conditions change.”
It said motorists should expect delays of up to one hour while traffic management is in place.
NZTA asks road users to drive with care.
“Electronic message boards are operating at several points approaching the gorge. Please monitor these, along with our social media channels, for the latest updates.”
