Whakatāne High School's performance of All Shook Up, an Elvis Presley jukebox musical, had everything you could possibly want: Elvis hits, outrageous misunderstandings, and enough romantic chaos to keep Cupid in business for years.

From the star-crossed lovers Lorraine (McKenzie Tidd) and Dean Hyde (Alec Simpson), to the will-they-won't-they romance of Sylvia (Nanami Hayter) and Jim Haller (James McKay), along with surprising confessions of unrequited love thrown into the mix, this show perfectly combined iconic Elvis music with the brilliant comedic timing of its talented cast.

Henrietta (Tylee Mark-Clay) kicks the show into gear with a powerful rendition of "Heartbreak Hotel," and from that moment onward, it's clear just how talented this cast is.

Chad (Jacksen Gundersen) brought effortless charisma to the stage, perfectly capturing the swagger and charm of the show's guitar-playing drifter while confidently delivering Elvis classics with style.

Watching Natalie Haller (Ruby Caves) pine over Chad struck the perfect balance between heartfelt sincerity and brilliant comedic timing as her increasingly complicated love life unfolded.

Whether it was the growing rivalry between sidekicks Natalie and Dennis (Jachin Galbraith), or Miss Sandra (Ruby Gibbs) hilariously falling for the wrong man, who, as it turns out, was never really a man at all.

The comedy kept the audience laughing throughout.

One of the show's recurring gags sees Mayor Matilda Hyde (Aleeya Raynes-Turnbull) constantly cutting off Sheriff Earl (Nate Parsons) before he can get a word in, creating some of the evening's biggest laughs.

The ensemble constantly drew the audience's attention, with every character adding another layer to the increasingly tangled web of romance, making it less a love triangle and more a ten-pointed love star.

The musical numbers were a blast, with Elvis classics woven into the story so naturally that you almost forget you're watching a plot held together by people repeatedly falling in love with the wrong person.

Whether you prefer the high-energy "Jailhouse Rock" or the heartfelt "If I Can Dream," the soundtrack won't disappoint.

Each musical number had its own identity, with the cast bringing enough personality to make even Elvis' best-known songs feel fresh.

The choreography was lively, the costumes were fantastic, and the whole production embraced its silliness in the best possible way, transporting the audience back to the era of Elvis.

By the final curtain, my cheeks hurt from smiling and laughing.

All Shook Up is pure feel-good entertainment, a hilarious, toe-tapping reminder that sometimes the best stories are the ones that are completely, gloriously ridiculous.

Throw on your blue suede shoes and get ready, because you can't help falling in love with this show.

The show runs until July 2nd, at Whakatane Little Theatre.
