Police were notified around 12.45pm yesterday after a kayaker reported finding what they believed to be human remains.
Police said the items were confrimed to be human remains, including four skulls.
"The items were found at the end of a coastal spit near Ohakana Island, in the Ohiwa Harbour."

A representative from local iwi accompanied Police to recover the remains, and a blessing was carried at the location.
