Two crashes occurred on Galatea Road over the weekend, one resulting in a fatality.
Police were notified of a motorcyclist coming off their bike near Matahina Dam at 4.15pm on Sunday.
The person suffered serious injuries.
About an hour later, at 5.15pm, police received reports of a single-vehicle crash on the same stretch of road.
The sole occupant died at the scene.
Police said the death was one of six on the roads over the weekend.
The road was closed for a time while the scenes were examined.
