MetService have issued an orange rain warning for The Bay of Plenty east of Ōpōtiki, and a rain watch for the rest of the area.
The warning is from 6pm Friday 13 February until 10am on Saturday 14 February, and the watch is from 12pm on Friday until 1am on Saturday.
MetService said those east of Ōpōtiki can expect to see up to 80 to 100 mm of rain to accumulate and there is a low chance of upgrading to a red warning.
The rest of the bay can expect "heavy rain or showers with a chance of thunderstorms and localised downpours of 25 to 40 mm per hour," and there is a "moderate chance of upgrading to a Warning."
