Search efforts will continue this week for a missing 71-year-old Pukehina man, Ross Weir.

Weir went missing from his Pukehina Parade home in the early hours of Wednesday, 19 August.

His whānau are grateful for all those who have taken the time to search for him.

“It's been one long week for a lot of people out there,” one family member said.

"It's been very hard on his wife and two kids and two brothers and sisters-in-law, and his nieces and nephews."

“We thank you all very much”

Police conducted coastline searches with members of Surf Life Saving New Zealand over the weekend; however, “Ross is yet to be located.”

Inspector Phil Gillbanks said land-based teams have been withdrawn from search efforts for the time being.

"There will still be a daily reconnaissance search of the shoreline, alongside assessing all available CCTV footage and information provided by the public,” he said.

“Police are continuously working to establish Ross' movements.”

Anyone with information or sightings that could aid police in their search is urged to contact police, referencing the file number 260819/3216.

Reports can be made online at 105.police.govt.nz, by calling 105, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 0800 555 111.
