After a week, Ngāti Tūwharetoa kaumātua have lifted the rāhui that was put in place over the Tarawera River.
The rāhui has been in place since the "tragic loss of two young lives, allowing space for mourning, reflection, and respect for both the whānau pani and the river itself," it said.
Although the rāhui has been lifted, the iwi encourage people to take care around waterways and to remain mindful of safety.
Tūwharetoa thanked the community for respecting the rāhui and say their thoughts and aroha remain with affectedd whānau.
"We acknowledge their mana, their strength, and the journey ahead."
11-year-old Luti Maui Mafi and 10-year-old Paul Mason Lloyd died after a bank collapsed along the Tarawera River on 16 April.
Acting Eastern Bay of Plenty Area Commander Inspector Phil Gillbanks said Police are continuing to provide support to the boys’ whānau.
"I want to acknowledge the outpouring of support from the Kawerau community at this incredibly tragic time."
The deaths have been referred to the Coroner.
