State Highway 2 Waioweka Gorge remains temporarily closed this morning as crews work to clear slip debris.
NZTA said debris from the Goldsmith slip built overnight, spilling over protective barriers onto the road.
The barriers are full and material is continuing to fall.
It said crews are actively working to clear the debris so the barriers can catch any more slips.
The road is closed to stop the risk of rocks hitting vehicles passing through.
NZTA said the road is expected to reopen between 11am and midday if conditions allow.
