Police said Emergency Services have suspended a search for a missing diver for the night.
Senior Constable Andrew McCarthy said police have stood down the search for a missing diver this evening.
It said the coordinated search effort will recommence tomorrow morning alongside Whakatāne Coastguard, Whakatāne Surf Lifesaving, and the Police National Dive Squad.

Hato Hone St John said they were notified at 1:32pm of a water incident at the Whaktāne Heads.
One ambulance, one rapid response unit and one operations manager responded to the scene.
It said the ambulance team on site were not required.
Police said Emergency services responded to an incident in Whakatāne" where a person appears to be in trouble in the water at the Sugarloaf Rocks area," this afternoon.
It said "Police SAR is responding, along with Coastguard and Surf Lifesaving."
