Work is getting underway to assess and clear a slip on State Highway 2 through the Waioweka Gorge, with short, full closures of the highway required over the next two days.
The slip occurred on Sunday, 30 August, and has left one lane blocked, with stop/go traffic management in place about 3km south of the Goldsmith Slip site.
Crews will be at the site on Wednesday, 2 September, and Thursday, 3 September, to inspect the slip face, undertake rock scaling and make the area safer for workers.
The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) said the highway will be fully closed for up to 10 minutes at a time between 7.00am and 5.00pm on both days to allow this work to be carried out safely.
Stop/go traffic management will remain in place outside those hours.
Once the slip face has been made safe, crews will clear the remaining debris from the road, with the aim of reopening both lanes.
NZTA expects to confirm when both lanes can reopen in the coming days.
