Han Meekel for many years has been a person who steps up for many organization's to offer his help in the community
He is a member of the Taneatua Lions and has been the Treasurer for many years. Whenever there’s a working bee, he never misses one.
Whenever Uzabus needs a driver, again Han steps in and says ok I will help you out.
He has driven the Bus for Mary Shapley Home for many years on a Tuesday morning, taking the residents for tours all around the Eastern Bay for there weekly outing and does the Xmas Santa Claus for them.
He now does weekly checks of the Rat Bait Stations along the Warren Cole Walkway from the Whakatane Bridge to the Whakatane Yacht Club and has engaged another retiree to help him to get him out of his home.
He also volunteers for Waka Eastern Bay and drives their bus around the Eastern Bay and further afield taking people to appointments, who are unable to get to, themselves. He is called also, when not on the roster as they know he will always say yes.
He has driven many miles at his own expense erecting signs for local and national elections.
Han has been known to drive around the Eastern Bay to help people who are unable to do small jobs around their homes.
